Day 13 (uh oh!) started around the same time as Day 12, Krysta brought me some milk for my Honey Nut Cheerios again (thanks!), but today we had to head to LAX to pick up my mom and my aunt Laura. I wanted to leave here by about 10:15, as they're flight was due to arrive at about 10:45, and LAX is pretty far away from where we're staying. We also were going to pick up William along the way. Of course I didn't leave until about 10 minutes or so later than I wanted, but we then proceeded to pick up William, hop on the 101 and head down towards LAX.
Fortunately the traffic wasn't too bad for most of the ride. When I say that, I mean there were obviously a ton of cars on the road, but for most of the ride we were moving at least 60 or so. We didn't get to LAX until about 11:15, but that was alright, we picked up my mom and Laura, and headed back towards the hotel. Cramming 5 people into that little Mazda 3 isn't easy, but we managed, but hopefully we won't have to do that too often. Anyway, by the time we got back to the hotel and got them settled it, it was after noon, and everyone was hungry.
We headed over to BJ's restaurant, which I had wanted to go to at some point, if nothing else because I enjoy shopping at BJ's Wholesale Club back home...seriously... So we went over there and had a nice lunch, talked a lot about things we're going to do, and what William's done in his internship so far. After lunch, we went back to the hotel, some people napped, some "freshened up" and around 2:15 we left to head over to our Warner Bros. Studio tour. We did first stop at William's apartment briefly, just so the newcomers could check it out, and since it's pretty close to WB, it wasn't really out of the way.
Anyway, we got to WB around 3, our tour was at 3:20. We had to walk through some metal detectors before going in, Laura kept setting it off, no one could figure out why, but the guy just let her through eventually haha. Anyway, we went over to check in, I had printed out a coupon for $5 off everyone's admission (I'm sure my dad's proud if he reads this), and browsed the gift shop a bit before the tour began. I had actually done this same tour last September when I was out here before, but I was looking forward to doing it again.
Our tour guide's name was Mike, he was very friendly and knowledgeable, so we can forgive the fact that he's a Jets fan, at least he wasn't a Yankee fan too, that might have been unpardonable... So we drove all over the set, saw various parts of the backlot, in which many famous movie scenes have taken place, as well as a few soundstages, including The Big Bang Theory, and the Buy More set from Chuck. We also got to see a lot of vehicles from various movies, including Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, which made me feel like a giddy little schoolgirl haha. They also had this cool museum that had all sorts of props and costumes from WB productions. All in all, the tour lasted for over 2 hours, and in my opinion is definitely worth it, despite its fairly high price tag. I've now done the WB tour twice, Paramount once, and the Universal ride/tour thing a couple times, and I think for sheer appreciation of the art of film making, etc.the WB tour takes the cake.
Afterwards we headed back to the hotel, got a visit from one of Laura's friends who lives out here now, who at least my family hasn't seen in probably 10 years or so. I made (and by made I mean threw together rather poorly) dinner, clumpy spaghetti was Chef Paul's special for the evening. No I'm not a good cook, but whatever, like I said, I'm trying to be economical. I then drove William back to his apartment, we had some of the cake, and most of the people I'm with decided it was time for bed. So as I write this, I'm in the dark with a lot of sleeping people, hopefully my keystrokes aren't preventing them from getting some good rest. If they are, sorry in advance....till tomorrow yo.
One more quick note, I've had The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie by the Red Hot Chili Peppers stuck in my head all day. Was unknowingly tapping the bass line with my fingers many times today. If I could have had one more thing on this trip with me, it'd definitely be my trusty old bass, but hey, can't bring everything....Also, what's with that mustache Anthony Kiedis is rocking right now, little weird looking. But hey, he's a rock star, and I'm not....yet anyway
