Day Two, Part 1

So Day 2 was mostly spent in the Rocky Mountains....mostly. I got up around 9 MST, did the usual morning stuff and went downstairs to find Krysta and Jack discussing routes and things to do. Thanks for waiting ;) There was a nice variety of breakfast foods available, but since I need to watch what I'm eating while injured I thought I'd make a sacrifice and just have a bowl of Honey Bunches Pecan. Actually it was wicked good so it wasn't a sacrifice at all. So after breakfast we got in the car and headed north to Boulder per Jack's recommendation.

After about a 40 or so minute ride through the city, we reached Boulder, a "college town" where the University of Colorado is located.
We had seen in the paper that there was some kind of festival going on in town that day, so we decided to take a look. The festival had all sorts of stands and booths set up for various stores and services, live music, and street performers. In particular we watched this one magician/comedian guy, whose humor overshadowed the fact that most of the tricks didn't actually work haha. After spending a little while in Boulder, we headed up Rt. 36 to Rt. 7 and towards Rocky Mountain National Park.

In the interest of time, I had wanted to continue driving up Rt. 36 towards the park, as it would have saved about 40 minutes, but taking the advice of a guy in the Boulder information center, we drove up the very scenic Rt. 7, and the extra time was more than worth it. Of course it took even longer than the hour and 45 minutes or so it was supposed to, as we made numerous stops to see truly spectacular sights.

Eventually we reached Lily Lake, where we could see incredible views of the town of Estes Park below. Must be a popular place because there were a ton of people there. In fact, there was even a wedding party coming out of a road by the lake. Definitely a place to see, however the "bathrooms" they had at the lake smelled rancid and practically made me gag. I don't recommend going in them if you're ever there.

Afterwards we drove down to the town, and a bit further in to the mountains. It actually seemed like a pretty normal town considering it was in the middle of the Rockies and far away any other civilization, alright it wasn't that far...

At this point I'm sure you all want to see the pictures, so I'll leave the rest of our day for the next post, and let you see the pics
